Ruby Dobry, APCC · California

Therapy for grief, trauma, and the life changes that reshape who you are.

When life changes in ways you never expected, you may not recognize yourself, your relationships, or the future you once imagined. You do not have to make sense of it alone. Therapy can offer a compassionate place to process what happened, reconnect with yourself, and begin moving forward at your own pace.

Perhaps life looks normal from the outside, but inside, everything has changed.

  • You are carrying a loss other people no longer seem to understand.
  • A relationship, betrayal, illness, or sudden transition changed how safe life feels.
  • You have been strong for everyone else and are tired of holding everything together.
  • You are functioning, but you do not feel fully present in your own life.
  • You want support, but you do not want to be rushed, judged, or given empty advice.

You do not need to have the right words. We can begin with what feels heaviest.

A place to understand what happened—and what comes next.

Every person arrives with a different story, so therapy is shaped around yours. Working together, therapy may help you:

Name and process complicated emotions
Understand trauma and grief responses
Reduce anxiety and emotional overwhelm
Reconnect with identity, values, and relationships
Develop practical coping and grounding skills
Carry meaningful memories without remaining trapped in pain
Build a life that honors what happened while making room for what is still possible

Therapy is a gradual, collaborative process. It does not promise cures or a set timeline — it offers steady support while you find your own way forward.

About Ruby

Clinical understanding. Human understanding.

My work is grounded in clinical training and shaped by a deep respect for the complexity of human experience. I understand that grief, trauma, and major transitions can affect far more than emotions—they can reshape identity, relationships, parenting, purpose, and the way we experience safety. I offer a compassionate and collaborative space where you can be honest about what happened without being rushed through your healing.

How we work

An approach shaped around you

Person-Centered Therapy

A relationship built on empathy, honesty, respect, and your inherent capacity for growth. You are the expert on your own life; my role is to walk alongside you, not ahead of you.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Exploring the patterns among thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and daily experiences — and gently loosening the ones that keep you stuck.

Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Learning to make room for difficult internal experiences while moving toward what matters most to you — your own values, not someone else's.

Narrative Therapy

Separating the person from the problem and exploring the stories that shape identity, meaning, and possibility — including the ones you have been told about yourself.

Mindfulness & Grounding Practices

Supporting emotional regulation, present-moment awareness, and reconnection with the body, especially when the mind is racing or far away.

Offered when appropriate

Hypnotherapy-Informed Practices

For some clients, gentle hypnotherapy-informed or RTT-informed practices may complement our work together. These are offered thoughtfully, only when suitable, and are never a substitute for psychotherapy or evidence-based treatment.

"Therapy with me is not a one-size-fits-all process. We will draw from different approaches based on your experiences, goals, culture, strengths, and readiness."

You do not have to wait until everything becomes unbearable.

Reaching out does not mean you have failed to cope. It can be the first step toward having a place where you no longer have to carry everything by yourself.
